Away on a Vacay!

Wow! What a busy few days I just had and I was on vacation.

V A C A T I O N.

It was a whirlwind of running here and there and traffic and excitement and giggles (and yes a few stressful moments).
I had a few days off of work and packed up the kids and headed south to my sister’s for a few days. Our schedule: Calgary Zoo, Olds Pool and whatever else we could find to do and keep the kids busy. We did! Or, let me rephrase that. My kids kept her kids busy…. And tired.
We did the zoo early enough to see the NEW penguin exhibit ( and only had to wait in line for 30 minutes!)

Saw pretty northern Canadian birds, wolves, cougars and elephants. Gloria the hippo was outside sunning herself with a friend so she was easy to spot and the giraffe was busy having a snack inside. Adorable little black and white monkeys gave us a chuckle at how cute they were napping on a log. It was a great visit to the zoo. I highly recommend it!
We also did the pool at Olds and I have to give a shout out to Miss S first off as we finally persuaded her to try the big waterside all by herself just once… and she did it…. She flipped around a few times before reaching the bottom but she did it. Isabella was a pro at it. Waving and smiling at us every time she flew down it.
We also did a few backyard water fights which I’m surprised Miss S got enjoyment out of.
It was a great couple of days off Now it’s back to the grind and opening up of the shop!

Under the Sea...

That's where I want to be right now.... laying on the beach, hearing the surf hit the sandy beach.... a mermaid life for me.

I quite enjoyed havinf the opportunity to enjoy the sea on our vacations when living in Italy. I'm a Canadian prairie girl so sand is what you find in the kids sand box to me. Our version of the sea? A giant "slough-like" lake to swin in. Ha! Ha!

Well, why not bring out your inner mermaid and throw a fun under the seas party for the kids. Get a pool, som great treats and have a water fight... Now that sounds like fun on these hot, summer days.Pin It

Hot! Hot! Hot!

Wow! We are having a hot spell here and I am sort of loving it. If you've followed our bloggy and our "Lissy in Italy" bloggy you'd know we were living for a while in Italy where it is super HOT HOT HOT! People can't believe that this is late spring weather for me (but drier of course). And yes I survived it with 2 tiny babies and having to walk half an hour there and back for groceries everyday.

I was thinking, what a great opportunity to keep the wee ones busy AND entertained with a Luau party or a Flamingo party. Get out your tropical attire or bathing suits, some sprinklers or a kiddie pool and some fruit and slurpee drinks. Here's a little inspirations for you:

I'm sure not everyone has air conditioning so why not make the most of our summer and have some fun before we head back into -30 some degrees (I live in Canada and yes, we get a few of those really cold days.)

Let the kids make their own fruit kabobs:

Or how about frozen watermelon pops... it's the easiest treat I can think of! Slice up some watermelon, add a stick and pop it in the freezer for a hot afternoon snack!

Set out a veggie tray. I bet if the other kids are eating a veggie your kids normally won't try, then they will give it a shot! It worked for my kids at their playschool parties.

Get out the slip and slide, or if you don't have one, I hear a tarp and some running water works too. It's a great way to stay cool in this hot weather. Aloha!!!
